Department of English
The Department of English of Noakhali Science and Technology University is one of the most vibrant departments in Bangladesh. Since its inception in 2011, the department has been contributing to projecting the ethos of academic research and dissemination of knowledge among its students. The department offers four-year Graduate and one- year Postgraduate degree in English Language and Literature. Nine batches of students received their B.A. (Hons.) degree and eight batches of students received their M.A. in English degree from this department so far. The awardees have been serving the nation actively in different academic and nonacademic fields. The students of the department are enthusiastic, studious, and cultural in mindset. Apart from gaining expertise in literary and linguistic issues, students find ample room for demonstrating their excellence in extracurricular activities like sports, debates, recitations, public speaking, newspaper write up etc. Presently, nineteen highly qualified academics are working as the faculty of the department. Many of them have acquired advanced and specialized degrees from reputed foreign universities in various fields of language and literature. Moreover, the faculty of the department keep themselves updated by engaging in professional activities like participating in national and international workshops, seminars and conferences. Arrangement of seminars, talks, memorials etc. have been a routine activity of the department.
Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) is dedicated to providing quality education and fostering research in the field of economics. Located in Noakhali, Bangladesh, NSTU is a prominent public institution known for its emphasis on science and technology education. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of economic theories, quantitative methods, and their applications to real-world issues. The curriculum is structured to prepare students for careers in academia, industry, government, and non-governmental organizations.
Department of Political Science
Start: Started with the academic recognition of UGC in 2015. Opening: 12 November 2015 It is a pioneering department in Bangladesh relating to different dimensions of Bangladesh and its glorious War of Liberation. A Course of this discipline entitled “History of the Emergence of Independent Bangladesh” is compulsory for all other departments in their first semester. The first honors batch of this department is admitted in 2016-17 session.
Department of Sociology
Sociology is one of the youngest disciplines of all social sciences. It is popularly known as the science of society. In other words, It is the scientific study of human society. It seeks to examine social behavior, social relationships and social structure scientifically. The Department of Sociology was established on September 11, 2017 and started its academic journey from 2017-2018 academic sessions under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU). Presently, the Department offers Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honors) degree in Sociology which involves four year-long undergraduate program. The Department has a yearly intake of 50 undergraduate enrollments. At present, there are seven qualified faculty members working at the Department, of whom one is professor, four are assistant professor and the rest are lecturers. However, three faculty-members are on study leave. The faculty members are well-dedicated and have outstanding academic profiles and research experiences in diverse areas of social sciences. We put special emphasis on both quantitative and qualitative approaches of social research so that the students could play an instrumental role as good researchers in future.
Department of Bangla
বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মঞ্জুরি কমিশনের অনুমোদন সাপেক্ষে ২০১৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৩১ জানুয়ারি নোয়াখালী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে বাংলা বিভাগ খোলা হয়। অনুমোদন প্রাপ্তির পরে ইংরেজি বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক জনাব মুহাম্মদ মুশফিকুর রহমানকে ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যানের দায়িত্ব প্রদান করা হয়। ২০ নভেম্বর ২০১৭ খ্রি. তারিখে বাংলা বিভাগে একজন সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ও একজন প্রভাষক যোগদান করেন। সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. মোহাম্মদ আনোয়ার হোসেন (চন্দন আনোয়ার) চেয়ারম্যানের দায়িত্ব (১২ ডিসেম্বর ২০১৭) প্রাপ্তির পরে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে শুরু হয় বিভাগের একাডেমিক কার্যক্রম। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একাডেমিক কাউন্সিলের ৩৭তম সভায় (১৮ ডিসেম্বর ২০১৮) বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সকল বিভাগের জন্য ৩ ক্রেডিটের (১০০ নম্বর) ‘বাংলা ভাষা ও সাহিত্য’ কোর্স অনুমোদিত হয় এবং বাংলা বিভাগের উপরে অর্পিত হয় কোর্স পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব। অতঃপর একাডেমিক কাউন্সিলের ৪০ তম সভায় (২৫ এপ্রিল ২০১৮) বাংলা বিভাগে ২০১৮-১৯ শিক্ষাবর্ষে স্নাতক (সম্মান) শ্রেণিতে শিক্ষার্থী ভর্তির সিদ্ধান্ত অনুমোদিত হয়। একই সভায় অনুমোদন পায় বিভাগের প্রথম কারিকুলাম কমিটি। বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যানকে চেয়ারম্যান, কর্মরত সম্মানিত সকল শিক্ষককে সদস্য ও কথাশিল্পী সেলিনা হোসেন, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রফেসর ড. সৈয়দ আজিজুল হক, আইবিএস, রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পরিচালক প্রফেসর ড. স্বরোচিষ সরকার এবং চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বাংলা বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান প্রফেসর ড. মহীবুল আজিজকে বহিঃস্থ সদস্য করে গঠিত হয় বাংলা বিভাগের কারিকুলাম কমিটি। কমিটি কর্তৃক স্নাতক (সম্মান) শ্রেণির জন্য ১৬০ ক্রেডিটের একটি যুগোপযোগী ও কর্মমুখী পূর্ণাঙ্গ কারিকুলাম প্রণয়ন করা হয়। বাংলা ভাষা ও সাহিত্য পাঠ ও গবেষণার পাশাপাশি ইংরেজি ভাষা-সাহিত্য ও কম্পিউটার শিক্ষার প্রতি গুরুত্ব প্রদান করা হয়েছে কারিকুলামে। একাডেমিক কাউন্সিলের ৪৪তম সভায় (১৮ ডিসেম্বর ২০১৮) প্রবেশনারি এবং ৪৭ তম সভায় ( ২১ মে ২০১৯) পূর্ণাঙ্গ কারিকুলাম অনুমোদন পায়। ২০১৮-১৯ শিক্ষাবর্ষে ৫১জন শিক্ষার্থী ভর্তির মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলা বিভাগের অনার্স পর্যায়ের শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। বর্তমানে বিভাগে ২ জন অধ্যাপক, ১১ জন সহকারী অধ্যাপক এবং ১ জন প্রভাষক কর্মরত আছেন। সহায়ক কর্মচারী হিসেবে কর্মরত আছেন একজন অফিসার, একজন নিম্নমান সহকারী কাম কম্পিউটার অপারেটর ও দুইজন অফিস সহায়ক।
Department of Social Work
The department of social work was established in 2018 and from then it successfully engaged in teaching and research activities. At present there are 04 full time teachers and 03 office staffs. The present enrolments of the students are about 31 and 200 at the graduate and undergraduate programs respectively. The department has large number of textbooks. The Bachelor of Social Science (B.S.S.) degree in social work under the faculty of social science, NSTU, is an integrated four years (eight semesters) program. The program includes courses of both theoretical and applied nature, but more emphasis is given on the applications of the social work throwers to real life situations. The students enrolled in BSS. (Hon’s.) in social work will have to complete a total of 140 credits in 4 years (eight semesters). The department has an association of its own named “YSWS-Youth Social Workers Society”. The aim of the association are to uphold the academic interests of the department, to organize indoor games, social work activities programs, functions, student welfare for the new students, farewell party for the outgoing students.
