About ECO

Innovation, academic excellence, and student success.

History

The Department of Economics at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) is committed to advancing knowledge, critical inquiry, and policy-oriented research in economics. Established with the vision of fostering analytical excellence within a science and technology–focused university, the department integrates theoretical foundations with quantitative and data-driven approaches to address contemporary economic challenges.

The department offers Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) and Master of Social Science (MSS) degrees in Economics. The BSS program provides students with a strong grounding in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, statistics, and econometrics, while introducing contemporary issues such as development economics, environmental economics, public finance, and international trade. The MSS program deepens students’ expertise through advanced coursework, specialized electives, and research training designed to cultivate independent analysis and policy competence.

Aligned with NSTU’s commitment to science and innovation, the department emphasizes empirical research, data analytics, and evidence-based policy analysis. Special attention is given to issues relevant to Bangladesh and the coastal region, including sustainable development, climate change, blue economy, poverty reduction, and economic resilience.

The Department of Economics fosters a dynamic academic environment where students are encouraged to think critically, engage in research, and develop practical problem-solving skills. Graduates of the department are well-prepared for careers in academia, government service, research institutions, financial organizations, NGOs, and the private sector.

Through excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, the Department of Economics at NSTU aspires to contribute meaningfully to national development and global economic discourse.
