BIOGRAPHY
Niger Sultana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh. She earned her B.Sc. (2017) and M.Sc. (2017) in Environmental Science from NSTU, graduating with distinction, ranking among the top of her class. Her academic career began as a Research Associate in a collaborative project between Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, Sweden, focusing on climate change, displacement, and human rights. In January 2022, she joined NSTU as a Lecturer and was later promoted to Assistant Professor. Niger’s research interests span environmental pollution assessment (soil, water, and air), ecological and human health risk analysis, industrial wastewater treatment, geographical information systems (GIS), and environmental impact assessment. She has supervised several postgraduate and undergraduate students, contributing to both academic advancement and applied environmental problem-solving. She has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in reputed international and national journals, including Science of the Total Environment, Geomorphology, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Bangladesh Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research, and Journal of Sustainability and Environmental Management. Her work covers diverse topics such as heavy metal contamination, microplastics, PAHs in coastal sediments, mangrove ecosystem monitoring, and long-term estuarine morphology. She has also co-authored a book chapter with Elsevier on water resource pollution (Current Directions in Water Scarcity Research, 2022). Beyond publications, Niger has presented her research at several national and international conferences, including ICSD 2020 and ICEPSD 2022. She has received competitive research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, and NSTU’s Research Cell, leading projects on industrial sludge pollution, ecological risk assessment, and innovative nanocomposite applications for wastewater treatment. In addition to her academic role, she is an active member of the Coastal Environment Network (CoEN) at NSTU and regularly participates in environmental awareness, climate change, and sustainability initiatives. Her long-term vision is to advance research and innovation in sustainability science and natural resource management, with a focus on combating poverty, ensuring environmental protection, and promoting climate change resilience in Bangladesh and beyond.
